The tweet said that the account of PM Jan-Dhan Yojana has tripled. Let me tell you that the number of Jan Dhan accounts has increased from 14.72 crore in March 2015 to 43 crore so far.

These account holders get many facilities

The world’s largest financial inclusion initiative has opened the doors of banks to the poor and they have got Jan-Dhan account passbook and Rupay card. Under this scheme, after opening an account, everyone is provided with cheap insurance, pension and other financial products.

Getting a benefit of 2.30 lakh

Jan-Dhan account holders are given a benefit of Rs 2.30 lakh. Holders of Jan-Dhan accounts are given accident insurance cover on opening an account in any bank. Account holders are provided accident insurance of Rs. 1,00,000 and general insurance of Rs. 30,000. If the account holder dies in an accident, he is paid Rs. 2 lakhs. If required in this regard, the holder of Jan-Dhan account can get up to Rs 2.30 lakh.

How to open a Jan Dhan account?

Apart from public sector banks under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, you can also open your Jan-Dhan account in a private bank if you wish. If you have another savings account, you can also convert it into a Jan Dhan account. Any citizen living in India, who is 10 years of age or above, can open a Jan-Dhan account.
